Leesa is the manufacturer of The Leesa Mattress and The Leesa Hybrid Mattress. Combined, the mattresses have earned 4.1 stars. Both mattresses earned a solid number of five-star reviews, but the number of 1- and 2-star reviews far exceeds Tuft & Needle's ratings for The Mint Mattress. Some Leesa customers have issues with outgassing, cooling, sagging, lumping and expansion out of the box.

Tuft & Needle has grown into a full-fledged mattress company, producing bedding such as a pillow, mattress protectors and toppers, sheets, covers and even bed frames and foundations. Tuft & Needle also offers a bean bag that includes memory foam shards. Leesa, meanwhile, also sells four different bases, including an adjustable base, pillows and a mattress protector.

Materials & Durability

Tuft & Needle's mattresses and Leesa's mattresses are constructed using high-quality materials. Both use environmentally friendly CertiPUR-US-certified foams, which have been tested and are recognized to be much better for your health and the environment. The manufacturing process of traditional foams can cause mattresses to be contaminated by dangerous chemicals such as formaldehyde and heavy metals such as mercury and lead. CertiPUR-US foams are not exposed to any harmful substances.

Tuft & Needle and Leesa are companies that launched in 2012 and 2015, respectively, so long-term mattress durability has not been tested. Rest assured that both mattresses are made with top-quality materials and boast 10-year warranties, so we don't expect durability to be an issue.

Tuft & Needle

Tuft & Needle's The T&N Original Mattress is made with two layers: 3 inches of T&N adaptive foam, or a proprietary polyurethane layer, and a 7-inch base support layer. The top layer contains graphite and gel, which are advertised to allow for increased cooling by dispersing heat. This mattress weighs 72 pounds for a queen model.

The T&N Original Mattress' cover is made from polyester and micro polyamide, used in clothing as a cotton alternative. The cover is designed to be soft to the touch. The mattress cover is resistant to tears and pilling. It may be spot-cleaned.

Tuft & Needle's Mint Mattress, topping out at 12 inches, contains two layers of T&N adaptive foam along with a base support layer. The Mint Mattress, the second mattress produced by the company, contains 30 percent more graphite. This additional graphite helps promote heat dispersion. The cooling effect is amplified by the addition of 30 percent more cooling gel beads, which also lend additional support. The Mint Mattress is wrapped in a cover also made from micro polyamide and polyester. This mattress weighs in at 80 pounds for a queen size.

Leesa

The Leesa Hybrid Mattress is a five-layer mattress. It features a 1-inch core support foam base and 6-inch 14.5-gauge pocket spring system with perimeter edge support. The next three layers comprise a 1-inch core support foam layer, 1.5-inch contouring memory foam recovery layer and 1.5-inch cooling premium foam top layer. The Leesa Hybrid Mattress has an overall thickness of 11 inches and weighs 115 pounds. The mattress is rated to be medium-firm.

The Leesa Mattress, the company's original model, is a 10-inch medium-firmness mattress containing three layers. A 2-inch cooling memory foam top layer rests on a 2-inch contouring memory foam recovery layer. These layers top a 6-inch core support foam base. A queen-size Leesa Mattress weighs 71 pounds, so it's significantly lighter compared with The Leesa Hybrid Mattress. This may factor into your decision in case you're the only one who'll rotate the mattress.

Tuft & Needle's mattress covers and Leesa's mattress covers offer minimal to elegant covers, with both being received satisfactorily. Each company's cover allows for maximum breathability.

Tuft & Needle

The Tuft & Needle mattress covers on the company's The T&N Original Mattress and Mint Mattress are clean and minimal, with the former coming in white and the latter coming in charcoal. The T&N Original Mattress cover is rated Standard 100 by Oeko-Tex certified plush and breathable. The Mint Mattress also boasts this certification but is rated ultra-plush.

The only design on Tuft & Needle's mattress covers is the company's brand logo. With this said, it would fair to conclude that the Tuft & Needle Mint Mattress offers minimal aesthetic vibes.

Leesa

The Leesa Hybrid Mattress cover is as elegant as it is functional. This knitted cover contains a polyester blend that is very soft and adequately thick, providing comfort. The cover is rather bold and striking, featuring a design containing four gray bars running near the bottom of the mattress.

The Leesa Mattress cover, by comparison, is made from a polyester and Lycra spandex blend. This cover is gray, with the four-bar design coming in light gray on this bed model.
